![]() A Clue to CLIL (Content & Language Integrated Learning)29th October, 2010 - Nizhnevartovsk, School N23 Presenter Douglas Allan was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1964. He almost became a coal miner like generations of his forefathers. However after graduating from Stirling University in 1987, he took up teaching English and Music in a rural school in the Highlands. Since then he has been lucky enough to have classroom experiences in Kenya, Mongolia, Hungary and Saudi Arabia as well as be involved in the training of over 10,000 teachers in 25 countries. PROGRAMME13:00 Registration 14:00 Greetings from Irina Zakhorova (LINGUA Ltd. - Nizhnevartovsk) and Slava Potapchouck (ONARA Ltd. - Moscow) 14:20 The Importance of Meaning in tanguage Learning The journey to a successful outcome in language learning can be long, tiring and frustrating. Students may face many hazards and traps In their pursuit of better English. This workshop will look at how language learning can, and must, be interesting, varied and. most importantly, effective. The session will suggest that a good language learning experience is an awareness raising process whereby students gradually become skilled at diagnosing tasks and framing appropriate responses. It will highlight the importance of exposure to stimulating materials which are grounded in the learners' interests. 1S:20 Becoming a Teacher Becoming a teacher is a fascinating process. Reflectrve teaching asks us to constantly examine why we do things the way we do in the classroom. As teachers we are asked to dissect the professional decisions we make every moment. What are the influences on us that form our thinking? How does this affect our students? This workshop will ask what special knowledge or skills does the CLL teacher need in order to deliver a rich language learning experience. 16:00 Break 16:30 Into, Through and Beyond: Integrating Language and Content CUL attempts to expose students to content from other school subjects in order to develop their linguistic skills and also to make the content more accessible through language development. This is an exciting and motivating educational experience and one which is in tune with how children naturally learn. In other words CLIL Is a two-way street: as we work with subject matter from different school subjects, our use of English improves and conversely our understanding of the subject is better. This workshop will analyse how content-based materials can help students learn. 17:30 Questions & Answers & Gifts (co-sponsored by Manic Monkey Ltd.): ВРЕМЯ и МЕСТО ПРОВЕДЕНИЯ: 29 октября 2010 в 13:00, МОСШ № 23, г.
